Pygmalion Term Assignments
In Assignment 2: I choose the third point which is making a play from scratch but with the same theme.
Pygmalion is a story about a flower girl that is transformed into a Lady. In ancient Greek mythology, Pygmalion was the creator of a sculpture which came to life and was a popular subject for Victorian era English playwrights, including one of Shaw's influences, W. S. Gilbert, who wrote a successful play based on the story in 1871, called Pygmalion and Galatea. Shaw also would have been familiar with the burlesque version, Galatea, or Pygmalion Reversed. Shaw's play has been adapted numerous times, most notably as the musical My Fair Lady and the film of that name. In this assignment I will talk about Pygmalion play that I examined.
For a start I think Pygmalion is a great and exquisite play that has an interesting story to it. Basically it’s about a flower girl that is met by a guy called Henry Higgins. Henry Higgins is what you might call a bundle of contradictions. He's a woman-hating mama's boy; an incredibly talented, educated whiny little baby of a man; a personable misanthrope; a loveable jerk. Shaw says it best in his initial description of Higgins:
His manner varies from genial bullying when he is in good humor to stormy petulance when anything goes wrong; but he is so entirely frank and void of malice that he remains likeable even in his least reasonable moments.
The first time we meet Higgins he's acting as a combination street magician/peacemaker. He calms down Eliza, and then proceeds to show off his skills by telling people where they're from just by listening to the sound of their voice. Oh, and he can mimic them too. Right from the beginning we can tell he's a bit of a braggart and a bit of a preacher he can't help but tell Pickering all about his trade, his life philosophy, and his ability to turn flower girls into duchesses; but as far as first impressions go, he makes a pretty good one. He comes off as one heck of a cool cat.
The first interesting quote is about Class, this show how she lives and what she ‘wants to be some day’. [The Flower girl] “She picks up the baskets and trudges up the alley with It to her lodging : a small room with very old wallpaper hanging loose in the damp places. {This show that her surrounding is terribly furnished and not properly built, which leads back to her being poor and not able to afford what she desires}
A broken pane in the window is mended with paper portrait of a popular actor and a fashion plate of ladies, dresses, all wildly beyond the poor flower girl’s means, both torn from newspapers are pinned up on the wall. {It shows that she was interested in the actors, “fan”, which could be her dream to be one day. Mostly because of the acting part which comes back to personality of the actor. She wishes to be someone like the hanged actor}
A bird cage hangs in the window: but its tenant died long ago: it remains as a memory only” {She had a thing for birds}
The second quote is in the middle where she has learned most of the things that a ‘lady’ usually does. It’s clearly stated in the paragraph as you can see the huge difference between the class that she was and the class that she is slowly becoming to be. She is way more careful with her cloths and takes good care of it; and with the way she looks in front of other people unlike before. I believe she’s taking good care of her clothes because, back then she was poor and anything that is worthless to the rich might be priceless to the poor, since she has tasted the life on the streets she know how to take care of everything that she owns.
The furniture of Eliza’s room has been increased by a big wardrobe and a sumptuous dressing-table. She come in and switches on the electric light. She goes to the wardrobe; opens it; and pulls out a walking dress, a hat, and a pair of shoes, which she throws on the bed. She takes off her evening dress and shoes; then takes a padded hanger from the wardrobe; adjusts it carefully in the evening dress; and hangs it in the wardrobe, which she shuts with a slam. She puts on her walking shoes, her walking dress, and hat. She pulls on her gloves; takes her vanity bag; and looks into it to see that her purse is there before hanging it on her wrist. She makes for the door. Every movement expresses her furious resolution.
The last part that truly interested me was, The trio return to Higgins' Wimpole Street laboratory, exhausted from the night's happenings. They talk about the evening and their great success, though Higgins seems rather bored, more concerned with his inability to find slippers. While he talks absentmindedly with Pickering, Eliza slips out, returns with his slippers, and lays them on the floor before him without a word. When he notices them, he thinks that they appeared out of nowhere. Higgins and Pickering begin to speak as if Eliza is not there with them, saying how happy they are that the entire experiment is over, agreeing that it had become rather boring in the last few months. The two of them then leave the room to go to bed. Eliza is clearly hurt ("Eliza's beauty turns murderous," say the stage directions), but Higgins and Pickering are oblivious to her.
Higgins pops back in, once again mystified over what he has done with his slippers, and Eliza promptly flings them in his face. Eliza is mad enough to kill him; she thinks that she is no more important to him than his slippers. At Higgins' retort that she is presumptuous and ungrateful, she answers that no one has treated her badly, but that she is still left confused about what is to happen to her now that the bet has been won. Higgins says that she can always get married or open that flower shop (both of which she eventually does), but she replies by saying that she wishes she had been left where she was before.
The play is rely interesting in almost all ways, and has a touch in most acts, the best part that hit me was how fast she changed from being a flower girl into a Lady, it was just astonishing, it was like it happened naturally in some scene..

ACT I
FADE IN:
EXT. AHMAD’S OFFICE – MORNING
In a glamorous office, a posh room fit for important businessmen. Ahmad is sitting behind his desk whilst Rashed is reading a book. The phone rings…
AHMAD
[Picks up the phone] Hello, minister! Yes the wife and kids are well. How about you? How is your wife? Ha ha ha. And kids? [Coughs with a serious tone] Yes, back to business, sir. [Moment of silence. Ahmad has serious look on face.] Well of course I have heard of the National Day gathering, it’s the most important day of the year! What? There are changes? [Rashed uncrosses his legs, closes his book, and leans forward as he takes interest in the conversation.] But your Excellency, you know my son is on a business trip. He can’t possibly make it! [Ahmad scratches his head and becomes nervous and tense.] No problem your Excellency, I’ll take care of the matter. [Ahmad puts down the phone, gets off his chair, stands up and looks at Rashed, who by this time is already attentive to the matter.] Rashed, we have a problem.
RASHED
[Slamming his book on the table and standing up.] Let me guess. Your son is off touring night clubs, tossing money around women, and frankly being just like you half-way around the world and in two months time we need to have him representing you at the most formal dinner party of the year! With the presence of who? The most highly regarded and respectable man in the face of Oman--- [Rashed gets interrupted by Ahmad.]
AHMAD
His majesty Sultan Yolanda bin Jolanda Al Choco-Bear and his daughter! What are we going to do ya 7aboob, Rashood? What are we going to do?
RASHED
I really don’t know ya bro, we’re doomed I tell you, we’re doomed.
The door opens as the house cook, Aydee (a Swahili nickname for Ahmad), a man in his early twenties dressed as a thirteen year-old with a hair-band, sun glasses, a cheap chain, and colorful three-quarter shorts wearing a tight vest, calls out to Ahmad and Rashed.
AYDEE
[In a heavy Swahili-English accent] Tha deenah is savdt my gudt saahs.
AHMAD
For the trillionth time, Aydee! It’s sir-r-r-r-s [while emphasizing on the ‘r’ sound]. Not saahs! Come on my good friend we’ve been through this, go on, try again.
AYDEE
Ahh, okeii sooory, [Now with an increasingly sarcastic tone yet with perfect pronunciation] the dinner is served my good sir-r-r-s.
AHMAD
Looking at Rashed with a surprised expression, while Rashed returns the same look. Umm… Aydee, can you repeat that, [pauses for a moment…] just one more time?
AYDEE
Nott ey problam saa … [Coughs and bows] the dinner is served my good sirs. [With even better pronunciation and class.]
Rashed and Ahmad look at each other excitedly.
AHMAD AND RASHED
You thinking what I’m thinking… [Ahmad and Rashed turn their heads toward Aydee]
AHMAD
Aydee get in here! [Rashed and Ahmad walk around Aydee excitedly, pulling up their sleeves] Yes I see it now… in three months time, I could change this cook, this pathetic excuse of an Omani gentleman, to a man of royal class, he’ll be the son I never had... sort of!
RASHED
[Taking off Aydee’s glasses and throwing it on the floor then removing his misar and placing it on Aydee’s head] Go on try this on, [walks around thinking, then takes off his fancy sandals] and this.
AHMAD
Yes…Yes… we’re on the right track bro. There is just one thing missing [stroking his beard].
RASHED
Of course, how could I forget?! [He walks over to the office drawer and pulls out a traditional Omani dagger, called a 5anjar.] His majesty’s favorite.
AHMAD
[Ahmad completes Rashed’s sentence…]
The silver 5anjar…
AYDEE
LOH! Itts going to be a veiry veiry bizzy three manths
AHMAD
Oh! You have no idea ya bro, no idea.
ACT II
EXT. A DIM ROOM, – DARK WITH A FOCUSED LIGHT
Aydee is sitting in the middle of the room with a desk with a lot of papers on top. Light is focusing on the three of them (Ahmad, Aydee and Rashed). The room is very grim with a ‘working’ atmosphere. Ahmad and Rashed are trying to teach Aydee some phonetics.
AHMAD
Sitting on the edge of the table, facing Aydee, who is sitting on a chair with his elbows on the desk and his head down, grabbing his hair. Ahmad is holding paper.
For god’s sakes Aydee! You have got to listen [Ahmad says, while slamming the papers on the desk] it’s thirty, not thaty! It’s party, not pauty! Moreover your name is Ahmad NOT Aydee. Rashed lets go again.
RASHED
Hello my good man. What is your name? What is your ambition? How was your journey? What is your mission?
AYDEE
My name is Ahmad min 3[1]man. My ambeetion is to get married to the princess of 3man by tha time…
AHMAD
The! The! Not thaaa!
AYDEE
Ah sory! My ambeetion is to get married by the time im th-th-thirrrty and my mission is to make the princess of 3man my bride, just kidding just kidding, ha ha [nervous laughter]. Ma jarney was fine.
AHMAD
Joourrrneey!
AYDEE
[Cough] My journey was fine and your parrrrty is superrrb haboup!
AHMAD
Very good! [Both Ahmad and Rashed are looking at Aydee with satisfied looks, arms crossed] I think we are getting somewhere with this guy.
AYDEE
[Aydee getting up from his seat] Mr. Rashed, Mr. Ahmad I don’t want to do this anymore… Looks of shock are exchanged between Ahmad and Rashed, Aydee starts walking away and then turns around and screams:
9daaaq! [9daaq pronounced sadaak means Sike! In this context, sike as in “haha you believed”]
This marks the beginning of the fast track scene, lights are switched on, music begins [possibly eye of the tiger] and all around the room, servants appear and are dressed in blue, short sleeved shirts, grey pants and aprons. The servants come forward holding Omani clothing items and accessories. They start trying on different things on him, at times Aydee is seen doing sit ups, whenever at the up position they try a different hat on him. At times Aydee is seen doing pushups whilst reading a book. At other times he is seen cat walking with different dress robes every time. This is all part of the fast track. The end of the fast track scene marks the end of the two months. It’s the night before the party, they are getting ready for bed.
RASHED
You did a very good job my bro… who would have thought you were a prince in disguise all along.
AHMAD
Yeah a prince who can cook!
AYDEE
7abooooob…that’s what the ladies want lah?
RASHED
That’s my man…Wa7sh wallah.
AHMAD
HEY-HEY! Tomorrow you’re going to go to that party, impress the king and we can put this whole matter behind us.
DISSOLVED TO:
They all chuckle as the light goes out. In the corner, the lamp switches on and the narrators emerge, one is dressed in white, representing an angel, and the other dressed in black, as a devil. The devil can’t be seen yet.
ANGEL NARRATOR
[Sobbing]What is happening to the world? What is happening? [Looking directly at the camera] Nothing should be cheated, not the social class system and especially not the king! I mean the poor cook will be sent to jail, if they found out his true disguise. God forbid the princess and he fall in love, because then he will surely be hanged by the Sultan, if he gets caught…..and he if he doesn’t [More sobbing] he will become king, a cook can’t rule a nation! They are doomed! Why can’t everyone just follow the rules! Whhhhyy…?!
DEVIL NARRATOR
[Appearing with a puff and smoke, and starts laughing hysterically] Hahahahahha! Finally, Oman will crumble to bits under the control of a ‘cook’! Let me tell you exactly what is going to happen tomorrow, white booohy… The princess is going to love young Aydee, the king will have no doubts that Aydee is Ahmad‘s son and ‘obviously’ will agree to the marriage. Next thing you know, a common cook is going to be a common king, the social class system will be cheated, and Oman will no longer be the great nation it once was!!! [Thunder sound effects and more evil laughter]
FADES OUT TO:
ACT III
EXT. AHMAD’S BEDROOM–
Ahmad and Rashed dressed in formal Omani clothes, getting Aydee ready along with one other servant.
AHMAD
The night has finally arrived! Aydee you’re going to do great ! I just feel it. Rashed how are we doing for time?
RASHED
The escort will be here in 10. [Shaking Aydee by the shoulders] How are you doing haboub? You nervous?
AYDEE
Me…?! Nope... Not at all, actually I’ve never been better… [Nervous laughter]
AHMAD AND RASHED
[Not picking up on Aydee’s nervousness] Great!
RASHED
Just need a few more touches. [Fixes Aydee’s mussar]
AHMAD’S SERVANT
My good sirs, the escort has arrived. [Bows and leaves the room]
AHMAD
[Placing a hand on Aydee’s shoulder] You have made me so proud, cook boy! If I wasn’t so tough… I would be crying right now. But you know that’s not how a gentlemen deals with his emotion. Tonight you’re going to go to this party, be my son and come back as if nothing had happened. I can’t owe you enough… “Ahmad”
RASHED
[Pulling Aydee away] Come on Aydee… let’s go.
Aydee leaves the room with a big smile of satisfaction, because he has been called by his formal name, just like any gentlemen, by his sir Ahmad. Ahmad grabs his mussar, and heads towards the door.
FADES IN TO:
EXT. THE MAIN ENTRANCE OF THE BALLROOM–
People wearing formal clothes, chatting excitedly. The Sultan arrives in a fancy car. A trumpet sound acknowledges his arrival.
RASHED
[Peering over the crowd] The king has arrived… and his daughter as well!
The king steps off the car, cheers come from the crowd as he walks towards the main entrance. A few minutes later his daughter follows with two guards by her side. She starts walking between the divided crowds towards the entrance. The princess immediately stares at Aydee and Aydee right back at her. A dramatic effect is created as this young couple has fallen in love ‘at first sight’.
AHMAD
It’s show time!
DISSOLVES TO:
A busy but splendid hall. Ahmad and Aydee are speaking to a very important associate of the Sultan.
AHMAD
Mr. Jalili, how fortunate of me to barge into the presence of your Excellency! May I introduce you to my son….
AYDEE
Allow me! I am Ahmad bin Ahmad min 3man.And you are?
MR. JALILI
[Laughing but impressed] Hahahahaha… Sir Ahmad why don’t you fill him in.
AHMAD
This... my good son [putting his hand on Aydee’s shoulder], is his Excellency Mr. Mahdi Jalili, right hand man of the sultan.
AYDEE
[Laughing politely] Hahaha... You wanna get to the sultan, you got to go through this guy, lah? It is truly an honor to meet you [He politely bows to Mr. Jalili].
MR. JALILI
Hahahaha.... You've got that right! You know what Ahmad, I like you. What do you say I introduce you to the king personally? Right here, right now...
AYDEE
[Excitedly] And his daughter...
MR.JALILI
[Smiles broadly] why of course! So will you do the honors of coming?
AHMAD
You know... I don't think the king has time...
AYDEE
[Interrupting Ahmad, and looking at Mr. Jalili, not concentrating on what Ahmad is saying] Definitely.
MR.JALILI
Alright let's get going...
Mr. Jalili and Aydee set off. Ahmad looks really worried.
AHMAD
[To himself] where is that devil Rashed?!?
[Rashed appearing from somewhere]
RASHED
Right here… so... How is our Aydee doing?
AHMAD
[In a bad temper and annoyed at how relaxed Rashed is] arghhhh... You wouldn't believe what just happened. Everything was going so perfectly.... Why did I have to be such a damn gentleman, and introduce him to Mr.Jalili? Now he's off to meet the king, and not just the king but his daughter as well!!! You saw the way they were looking at each other!
RASHED
[Sighs] I see where this is going... Let's just hope for the best, I mean love at first sight only exist in fairy tales…right?
AHMAD
I just hope he gets out of there untouched by her beauty so WE CAN JUST GO HOME...
FADES OUT:
EXT. A very glamorous, traditional Arab sitting room [the majlis]
The king is sitting at the back of the room, important people are sitting next to him and against the walls. Ahmad and Mr. Jalili are walking towards the king.
THE SULTAN
Well Mr. Jalili… what have we got here? A potential groom for my daughter, hahahaha!
MR.JALILI
Oh..you never know, for here I present you with a true Omani gentlemen, Ahmad bin Ahmad min 3man.
AYDEE
Your majesty... It's truly an honor too great for measure, for you are my king, there exists no greater pleasure.
SULTAN
Impressive I must say... Jalili you have truly found gold. This gent here, this young man is truly one of a kind. You know you should meet my daughter. [Pauses for a moment, a trumpet sound follows] oh it's time to give my speech, excuse me.
The sultan leaves the room with guards by his sides and the crowd from the majlis following behind. The king calls for Mr. Jalili to come, leaving Aydee alone in the room. From outside the majlis, the sultan can be heard giving his speech. The sultan's daughter runs into the majlis slamming the door shut and is almost in tears.
AYDEE
May I ask what is bothering your pretty heart my princess?
PRINCESS AMBROSIA
[She still hasn't looked at Aydee yet] My father is about to announce that I haven’t chosen a groom yet! I am such a disappointment to everyone… if I can just find that one man… who has truly stolen my heart with his gaze, who goes by the name…
AYDEE
[Completing her sentence] Ahmad? [The princess spins around and gasps] My fair lady, princess Ambrosia, I'm touched at being in your presence. [Gets down on one knee.]
PRINCESS AMBROSIA
Oh… stop it you. [Coughs and regains herself] and I am blessed to have met a gent like you!
AYDEE
Your name, Ambrosia, is the food of the Greek gods. Your love to me, however, is the food of my heart. Will you take my hand in marriage?
PRINCESS AMBROSIA
Damn right I will!
SULTAN
[Finishing his speech on a platform]Andunfortunately… ladies and gents, our princess has failed to pick a groom good enough for her this time. But don’t you worry, there is always next year... [He walks off the platform and the crowd claps out of respect.]
MR. JALILI
Ladies and gents I hope you had a great night… may we see you next year
PRINCESS AMBROSIA
[Running towards the platform] Next year my ass! [On the platform holding Aydee’s hand] I have chosen my true love, Ahmad bin Ahmad min 3man. [Cheers from the crowd and looks of disbelief in Rashed and Ahmad’s faces].
AYDEE
Hey-hey… honey let me take over. I had dreamt of this day almost all my life, I just never knew it. That girl [pointing at princess Ambrosia] is the love of my life! [Cheers from the crowd, Sultan walks on stage and gives Aydee a hug].
SULTAN
My daughter couldn’t have picked a better groom, Mr. Ahmad come on up! Your son, my daughter, it’s truly a blessing... we are brothers now! [Embraces him]
AHMAD
This is truly a surprise, a really big surprise [emphasizing it and staring at Aydee] well Ahmad, can I ask you one thing… when were you planning to get married exactly?
AYDEE
Well Mr. Ahmad by the time I’m thaty actually, but no harm in doing it earlier.
SULTAN
[Notices the phonetics mistakes, looks very suspicious and asks him again slowly.]At what age did you say?
AHMAD
Thaty… you know 27, 28, 29 then THATY!!!
SULTAN
[Looks at the crowd, then looks back at Ahmad. He speaks in a low tone] Why don’t you come to my mansion tomorrow afternoon? We can enjoy dinner with a few of my associates and celebrate this great news. Come alone and be there at 3:30.
AYDEE
No problem sir, three thaty.
SULTAN
[Turns to the crowd] Ladies and gentlemen I hope you had a great night, take care, and now get lost… Hahahaha.
Mr. Jalili and the Sultan are the last ones to leave. They reach the outside steps when the Sultan pulls Mr. Jalili back and whispers in his ear.
Mr. Jalili invites the undercover special agents to the lunch tommorow, I have a feeling that Ahmad is not who he claims to be…
The Sultan and Mr.Jalili walk of and the narrators pop out of the bushes.
DEVIL NARRAOTR
[Tapping his finger tips together, with an air of mischief about him. Facing the angel]Wooooooooh Aydee is gonna get in troouuubleee!!!
ANGEL NARRATOR
Well at least he is not going to become king. Losing one life is better than losing one nation. Face it devil you lost…
DEVIL NARRATOR
Haahahahahah… no angel, you face it, It still hurts to lose that one innocent soul, doesn’t it? and not just any soul, a soul loved so deeply by the princess, and cared for so much by that fool sir Ahmad. Talk about one stone, three birds…hahahahahaaa…oh I always win.
[“Poof” both narrators disappear with a cloud of smoke]
DISSOLVES TO:
EXT. At the door of an important conference room –
The day after the party…Aydee is about to go meet the king and his associates, thinking that they are going to celebrate his engagement, but that’s not the case. The meeting is actually taking place to discover Aydee’s true identity.
AHMAD
Remember Aydee its better late than never. Just tell them who you really are, I mean is this girl really worth all this trouble?! Aydee you’re going to die if you get caught…
AYDEE
First of all, this life is not worth living without ha. Secondly, [grabbing on to Ahmad’s shoulders] it’s going to be ok. The king has no idea who I really am! Trust me… I was awesome yesterday, and I am going to be even better today. I mean come on, 7aboub; did I make a single mistake yesterday?
AHMAD
[Looking guilty] No you don’t understand Aydee… yesterday… when we were about to leave… I… I… fooled you into making a phonetic mistake… a big one as well.
AYDEE
What are you talking about?
AHMAD
Yesterday… remember when I asked you when you were planning to get married… I did that on purpose… the thing is I knew you would say ‘thaty’ instead of thirty. And I’m positive the king noticed it. I swear… I only did it to stop you from biting off more than you can chew. A cook can’t rule a country…
AYDEE
[A look of disgust on his face] I get it now, you’re just so jealous that I am getting married to the princess instead off your pathetic son. You didn’t expect me to impress the king so much; you thought I couldn’t do it. I was just a backup plan for you…
AHMAD
Nonsense! Aydee listen to me, isn’t it a bit suspicious that they didn’t allow me, ‘your father’, to come to your engagement party?! And who has an engagement party in a conference room???
AYDEE
[With a look of disgust in his face] I can’t believe you’d stoop so low just to stop me….you know what… fuck off.
Aydee storms in to the conference room. Ahmad walks off to the stair banister, puts both hands on it and bows his head down in shame.
DISSOLVES TO:
The conference room. The sultan is sitting on the main chair at the end of the long table, with his grim looking colleagues sitting on the other chairs. The second main chair, opposing the sultan is left empty for Aydee.
AYDEE
Forgive my late intrusion your majesty
SULTAN
[First looking grim then breaks into a big smile] Not to worry… son. Why don’t you take a seat?
AYDEE
[Feeling under pressure, and sitting at the head of the table, facing the Sultan, just making it worst] Theinks… [Coughs] Thank you your highness.
SULTAN
[Claps twice and waiters come in and serve drinks] So how was your journey, future king Ahmad? [With a hint of sarcasm, but still smiling.]
AYDEE
[Very nervous at this point, realizing Ahmad was right] My jaaney ….. JOURNEY [frustrated]…was fine sa…sir.
SULTAN
[Enjoying himself very much, though his associates are still staring at Aydee with grim faces] Ha ha ha! Tell me something Aydee, did you enjoy yourself last night? I know my daughter did…she found the love of her life! Ahmad bin Ahmad min 3man [sarcastically] ….that ‘is’ your name right?
AYDEE
Of course! I’m the son of Ahmad…I’m a gentleman…I deserve to marry your daughter! I love ha….
SULTAN
HA you say….or did you mean her? [Pauses then with a very serious tone] I’m going to ask you once and only once….WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH MY DAUGHTER… MY KINGDOM AND MY PEOPLE?
AYDEE
[Panicking] What do you mean sire? It is me! Ahmed bin –
SULTAN
ENOUGH! [Hitting the glass of the table with one hand so that it smashes against the wall] grab the boy [shouts to his men].
The two closest men grab Aydee by the arms and pin him against the wall, the Sultan walks over to him.
Boy listen to me….you tell me one more lie and I promise you…I promise you that my men will put you through so much hell, it will make Guantanamo look like a children’s play school….now I’ll ask you one more time….who are you….and what the hell do you want from me?
AYDEE
[Sighs deeply then speaks dignifiedly] My name is Ahmad Gombei Al Harthy…aka Aydee 69…..I work as a cook for Sir Ahmed min 3man. I’m not a gentlemen, and I’m definitely not a prince…but I’ll tell you one thing, the love I have for your daughter is like no other, and I’m proud to die trying to win her heart.
SULTAN
Take him away. He is to be beheaded at sundown.
MR. JALILI
What about the daughter?
SULTAN
She can say goodbye to him at the execution stand. Goodbye Aydee, maybe in some other world where class doesn’t separate the love of two souls, you would have been the perfect groom.
The guards start taking him away when Ahmad barges into the room.
AHMAD
Stop… just stop. Your majesty, sultan Yolanda, I’m the one to blame. Not him. It was me who trained him to perfection and it was me who asked him to come. He was just a happy cook who could never say no to me. I’m the one to die. Not him. I request that you set the boy free, and instead take my life away.
SULTAN
Yeah, sure. Set the boy free. Sir Ahmad min 3man, today at sundown you’ll be executed for treacherous acts against the sultan of Oman. Aydee you are free to say goodbye to your master today at sundown, as for now, just get out of my sight. Gentlemen, Sir Ahmad, have a good day. [Walks out of the room, showing no emotions.]
EXT. OUTSIDE
There is a platform with an execution stand on it and three chairs slightly further away from the stand where Mr.Jalili, the sultan and a man holding a notepad are all sitting. The execution stand is just big enough to place a neck on it. There is a large guard wearing a black mask covering his whole head and holding a sword standing next to the stand. In front of the platform there is a solemn crowd eagerly waiting.
MR. JALILI
[Getting off of the chair, walking in a military style to the centre of the platform holding a piece of parchment, looking very sad.] The supreme court of justice calls forward the unlawful Sir Ahmad bin Hamad min 3man, to the platform.
Two men holding Ahmad who is in chains and wearing military uniform emerge from the back of the crowd and are heading towards the execution stand. The crowd separate and form a path for him. A very sad atmosphere is created as the sun is slowly setting. The two men put Ahmad’s neck on the execution stand and walk off the platform. Ahmad has his hands tied behind his back.
We are gathered here today by the grace of Allah to witness the light of justice shine before us once again. Ahmad bin Hamad min 3man, you are condemned to death by the highest court of justice for unlawful acts against the king and his people. I graciously bring forward his highness sultan Yolanda bin Jolanda al Chocó Bear to honor the formal procedure.
[Walks back to his chair, again in a military style.]
SULTAN
[Walks to the centre of the platform in a very relaxed manner] Ahmad, son of Hamad, proclaim your last words.
AHMAD
I bare witness there is no god but Allah and that Mohammad is his messenger.
SULTAN
It’s a beautiful day to die on [in a very serious tone] I motion for the beheading to commence. [Now, turning to the crowd] May justice be served!
AYDEE
[Appears as he emerges from behind a pillar on the platform] You promised I could say goodbye. But I don't intend to, no not today.
SULTAN
[The sultan turning around looking surprised] What on earth are you talking about? [He says it in a calm manner.]
AYDEE
Ahmad only wanted to fulfill his demanding obligations of this damn class system of being a gentleman. It's not his fault that his son is away touring women's’ bodies. The only reason I was taught to be a gentleman was for your sake, for your satisfaction. Not for me not for him and certainly not to betray you. Me falling in love with your daughter was not planned, emotion is uncontrollable, is that such a crime. Does that deserve death?
SULTAN
Oh for goodness sake! Don't you people understand? It is not about love and romance. It is not about right and wrong. It is about the system — the rules and what men like us have to do in order to survive in such a world! You might think I am at the top of this horrendous hierarchy but the sad truth is, I'm trapped, just like the rest of you. What am I to do? Tell me oh proud citizens, what am I to do?
RASHID
[Walks onto the platform] Break the rules … for the sake of justice.
AHMAD
For the sake of life…
AYDEE
For the sake of love…
PRINCESS AMBROSIA
For me dad, for me. Break the rules for me dad.
SULTAN
[Pauses for a moment] Is that what you really want, Ambrosia?
PRINCESS AMBROSIA
He’s the reason I found my soul mate in the first place…Please set him free, father, please.
SULTAN
[Pauses, then sighs and looks at Mr.Jalili] What do you think partner?
MR.JALILI
It’s the right thing to do… Just set the man free. It was a crime of good intention, isn’t that what matters most in the end?
SULTAN
[Sighs and looks at Aydee, then Mr.Jalili, then finally Ahmad] You’re a good guy Ahmad, you don’t deserve this. [now to the crowd] I hereby expel the capital punishment against Sir Ahmad Hamad min 3man. May God bless us all.
The crowd, cheers as Ahmad is set free and everyone begins to embrace each other. Everyone begins to leave as it is dark by now. Ahmad, Aydee and the Princess are left. The princess is standing alone by a bush while Ahmad and Aydee are speaking to each other at the foot of the stairs.
AHMAD
Well, I guess you won’t be cooking food for us anymore will you? [Chuckles]
AYDEE
HEY! 7aboob who said a prince can’t cook for an old friend every once in a while! [Now more seriously] That’s the least I can do for you, you gave me a priceless gift that I can’t possibly ever return, and for that I owe you my life.
AHMAD
Alright, alright Romeo. Don’t go forget us now you’re married to that princess [chuckles] anyways don’t keep you’re Juliet waiting, until next time good night Aydee.
AYDEE
Good night sa! Hahahahaha
Ahmad smiles at Aydee and walks of, he passes the princess and whispers something in her ear. She then walks to Aydee and sits by his side.
PRINCESS AMBROSIA
Hey, you might be a prince to everyone in this country, but your still my cook boy, you know that don’t you.
AYDEE
Hahahaha! No problem princess, how about we go cook something up in the bedroom right now? [Princess ambrosia is not too impressed] I’m kidding. I love you ambrosia.
PRINCESS AMBROSIA
[Now smiling] And I love you.
They stand up holding hands and walk away into the distance, before they get out of sight the two narrators pop in front of the screen.
ANGEL NARRATOR
Maybe next time fish face, oh wait!? I said that last time. Hahahahahaha. So this is how it’s going to go. Aydee is going to get married to Ambrosia. Get the cutest babies in the world and live happily ever after. As for you my friend-
DEVIL NARRATOR
I DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT! Damn you, and damn everything…..ARRGGHHHH……anyways, want to go into someone else is movie?
ANGEL NARRATOR
Yeah sure. [And with a puff of smoke, they disappear]

ACT I
FADE IN:
